Hi there! Nice to meet you!
The mission of the Black Urban Farmers Association (BUFA) is to promote a healthy lifestyle by providing fresh, locally grown vegetables & herbs that highlight African American cuisine & a plant based diet.
Our active, hands-on farmers are all passionate baby boomers who became farmers after retirement. Several of our original founders have full time jobs but offer support by scheduling volunteers & ordering resources when needed.
Our first year in business, 2015, was a learning experience and we wanted to grow everything that sounded interesting. In ourr 2nd year we stuck to our commitment to grow crops that were seasonal with a focus on green, leafy vegetables for cool weather crops and peppers, squash, tomatoes, green beans, and eggplant for warm season crops. Year 3 is getting even more focused.
We grow more than 12 varieties of greens including ARUGULA, COLLARDS, MUSTARDS, TURNIPS, SPINACH, & ASIAN.
Our herb menu highlights Oregano, Thyme, Basil, Cilantro, Parsley, Chives, Sage and we will be adding more herbs & medicinals.
